Complete Streets Ordinance Passed!

cs-header

We are excited to announce that City Council approved a Complete Streets Policy for New Bedford! The Complete Streets Policy was drafted with support from the Mayor’s Office and by collaboration among the Department of Public Infrastructure, Office of Housing & Community Development, as well as the city’s consultant, CDM.

While numerous roadway improvements have been made throughout New Bedford in recent years, and have been designed to meet the needs of all users and make our streets safer, this policy creates a precedent that all roadway designs must take into account the safety of all users, including pedestrians, cyclists, individuals with disabilities, and seniors, as well as motorists. Complete Streets policies allow cities to create roadways that encourage diverse users and promote more physical activity among community members.

The policy has been submitted for grading by MassDOT and is currently “pending” approval. Stay tuned for updates!
