Age Friendly Initiative

In 2017 we joined the Age Friendly Coalition headed by the New Bedford Council on Aging and Coastline who applied to become an Age Friendly Community in December 2017. As summarized by the Massachusetts Healthy Aging Collaborative:

“Age-friendly communities strive to better meet the needs of their older residents by considering the environmental, economic, and social factors that influence the health and well-being of older adults. These programs seek to offer older adults a wider range of choices that make it possible for them to ‘age in community.’”

The New Bedford Age Friendly Coalition has a focus on:

  • Aging in Community/Housing
  • Outdoor Spaces and Buildings
  • Transportation
  • Community Supports and Health Services
  • Social Participation
  • Civic Participation and Employment
  • Communication and Information
