The City of New Bedford continues to make efforts towards creating a more bicycle friendly community by installing 15 new bike racks throughout the City. The new racks were installed in Fall 2013 with funding provided by the Office of Housing and Community Development. Residents can now find bicycle racks at Hazelwood Park, West Beach, New Bedford Public Library Downtown, and Brock Avenue (in front of Center Cafe).
The locations and rack style were decided upon with the collaboration of stakeholders and many City leaders, including the Mayor’s Office, Planning, Public Infrastructure, Parks Rec and Beaches, Housing and Community Development, Mass in Motion New Bedford, New Bedford Bicycle Committee, and the Trustees of the Library. The hitch style rack can be seen throughout the City and compliment racks installed along the new construction on Acushnet Ave International Market Place. The Dept. of Public Infrastructure used installation and configuration guidelines from the City of Cambridge Bicycle Parking Guide. Mass in Motion New Bedford extends their gratitude for the time and hard work needed for the installation of these structures.
These racks provide increased parking opportunities in some of our key public buildings and parks and are one step closer to creating linkages and infrastructure for a thriving cyclist community. We hope that New Bedford residents and visitors enjoys these new amenities. Check them out in the photos below!
