VOICES for a Healthy Southcoast Receives $1 Million Community Transformation Grant

Members of Voices for a Healthy SouthCoast announced the receipt of $1 million from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to develop a two-year SouthCoast Healthy Housing and Workplace Initiative (SCHHI), a cross-sector campaign to improve heart and lung health in Fall River, New Bedford and Wareham by limiting secondhand smoke in housing, worksites and mental health and substance use treatment facilities. The goal of the project is to increase opportunities for good health — and decrease the opportunities for smoking through three main components: (1) Smoke Free Multi-Unit Housing by building leadership among residents and working with housing authorities to increase smoke-free multi unit housing; (2) Increase Access to Tobacco Cessation by making it easier for housing authority staff and residents, as well as substance abuse and mental health staff and clients to quit smoking through a cross-referral system and cessation programs offered onsite; and Healthy; and (3) Smoke Free Workplace Campuses provided by employers and health and human service organizations who go 100% smoke-free outside their buildings as well as inside.  (Orginally posted by d.weed, youtube.com)
